How to report a problem
- Open GuesthouseVM, choose Help › Copy Technical Details and paste the result into your message: it contains the app and macOS versions, a summary of your machines without names or paths, and the last lines of the log.
- Describe what you were doing, what you expected and what happened. If the machine does not boot, attach the console's Serial Log too.
- Tell us the guest system (distribution and version) and where the image comes from (catalog, downloaded ISO, cloud image).
Built-in help
The app includes a complete guide in English and Italian: choose Help › GuesthouseVM Help or press the ? button in any window to open the relevant page.
Frequently asked questions
Open the Serial Log from the console: Linux guests print their output there when booted with
console=hvc0. FreeBSD does not boot with Apple's framework (the firmware is ACPI-only), which is why the wizard does not offer it.The framework reads only raw and ASIF images. Convert it, for example with
qemu-img convert -O raw image.qcow2 disk.img, or pick a ready-made distribution from the catalog.Eject the disk in the Finder first, then unplug and plug the device again with GuesthouseVM open. The system “Virtual Machine Accessories” item appears only when the app can claim the device.
Snapshots are taken while the machine is powered off or has a saved state. Disks stored outside the machine package are not included.
While the machine runs it appears in the Network card of the details, with Copy SSH Command. It requires NAT networking and a guest that requests its address through DHCP.
Settings can be changed while the machine is powered off. If a saved state exists, discard it first: changing the hardware would make it unusable.
Check that Rosetta is installed on the Mac (Settings › Advanced), that the share is mounted in the guest and that it is registered in binfmt_misc with the commands shown in the pane.
Requirements
- Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later)
