Data collected by the app

None. GuesthouseVM has no accounts, requires no registration, contains no analytics, advertising or tracking and sends nothing to our servers. We have no servers receiving data from the app.

Data that stays on your Mac

Virtual machines (configuration, disks, snapshots, saved state, preview screenshots) are stored in the app container at ~/Library/Containers/biz.openpc.guesthousevm or in the folder you choose. Passwords set through cloud-init are stored only as SHA-512 hashes in the machine's seed disk. The app log stays in the macOS unified logging system. None of this leaves your Mac unless you act (export, copy).

Files and devices the app accesses

The app is sandboxed: it only accesses the files and folders you select (ISO images, disks, shared folders, machine folders), remembering them through macOS security-scoped bookmarks. USB devices are connected to a virtual machine only when you grant them to the app from the macOS system menu. Machines use NAT networking, handled by Apple's framework.

Network connections

The app connects to the Internet only at your request and only to third parties: the Linux distributions' servers to download catalog images and their checksum files (for example cdimage.ubuntu.com, cdimage.debian.org, download.fedoraproject.org, dl-cdn.alpinelinux.org, download.rockylinux.org); Apple's servers for macOS restore images and for installing Rosetta. These connections are subject to the respective operators' policies. Virtual machines have their own network access, governed by the guest operating system you install.

Diagnostics and crashes

If you turned on sharing diagnostic data with developers in macOS System Settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports through App Store Connect. The Copy Technical Details command in the Help menu prepares a report without personal data; you decide whether and to whom to send it.

Purchases on the Mac App Store

If you download the app from the Mac App Store, the purchase and any payment are handled by Apple under its privacy policy. We receive neither your payment details nor your Apple Account.

This website

The site consists of static pages. It uses no cookies, has no forms and contains no analytics or tracking. Bootstrap's stylesheet and scripts are loaded from the jsDelivr content delivery network, which receives your IP address to serve them, under its own policy. The server hosting the site may keep IP address, date and requested page in technical logs for security reasons, for a limited time.

Children

The app and the site are not directed at children under 16 and do not knowingly collect data about them.

Your rights

Since we process no personal data through the app, there is nothing to access, correct or delete with us. For the site's technical logs or any other request under the GDPR you can write to the address above; you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, Piazza Venezia 11, 00187 Rome, protocollo@gpdp.it, www.garanteprivacy.it).

Changes

Should the app or the site change in a way that involves personal data, we will update this page before the change and say so in the release notes.
